Too Short Summer...

last weeks have been filled with cold winds... rain.. and cold temps ...
...gosh.. think Autumn came...

way way too early... we use to have wonderful August days.. especially around when School starts over for the kids...
But Brr... having morning temps around 5 C ( 41 F)
we actually make a fire every morning and evening...  and it is early...

So I made some Autumn Flowers....

and added them to my Short Story...

... and got myself an Autumn quilt...named
Too Short Summer....

One thing though..
I cant decide on which way to hang it...lol...

First I thought of just adding the flowers to the side...
for fun..:o)
so the blocks are arranged thinking that way...

But when finished.. it looked as good having them at the bottom...
so I took away the hanging sleeve at the back...
 so I could do whatever...

What do you think???

Flowers at the side...
Flowers at the bottom....

Well I think one have to little to worry about...
when things like this get ones all attention..:o))
*SMILE*

A chair and a new start...

the new start will have to represent a New Schnibble in the making..lol..

Short Story... :o)
Gosh I think Autumn is here.. I am working with dark fabrics!!!!
How did that happen...

And I cant say I am really in love with this pattern ...
a lot of cutting... and it is tough on my neck and shoulders..
maybe it is why it aint as fun as it use to be..
Well.. after having almost everyone sewn together... I am not sure if I love it or if I hate it... it is a little to nice.. it doesn't happen so much...
or maybe it is all the dark fabrics.. because it cant be the pink fabrics..lol...

Post more later... :o)))

Ok .. Have almost forgotten about this chair.. but when thinking of going back to work.. I remembered what  I worked  on before my vacation...

to finish this Patchwork Chair for a booth at a Major Trade here in Piteå
Big Nolia... a week ago.. did miss it myself.. so I didnt see it at the trade :o(...
1950-1970s fabrics were used and it was a lot of fun..
And I wouldn't mind having it here in my home..
Havent heard if it have been sold or what have happened with the chair...
since I have been at home all week...

One thing I know.. I have to look for a chair at work.. that I can buy and turn into a chair like this!! :o))

Back to work on some Short Story blocks...
See you..

BTW..
Havent taken the Pfaff for a test drive just yet...

Feedback please...

on sewing machines.... :o))

I am sooo tempted to buy a new machine... but not sure yet...

I love my Pfaff 2042.. ( until  yesterday..;o))

I have wanted to upgrade to a newer one for the last years ( wanted Pfaff to come with a BSR  function...  before buying a new one ) .. and since I have been satisfied with the 2042 ... why buy a new one... :O)?

Ok questions for you...

Do you know anything good or bad about Pfaff expression 4.0??

And good or bad about the Bernina QE 440 Aurora or the 450??
(Hope I spelled the name right.)

Or any other machine.. I know lots of people using Janome.. but I do not know anything at all about them... so please fill me in..:O))

This will be some fun.. please share what you think..

Och ni som bor i Sverige... lägg gärna in ert vetande också...
skriv pÃ¥ svenska..  det läser jag..:O))

Lousy day...

And I mean it...

Firstly I have had big trouble with my neck...
fire and thunder pain and headaches.. and have slept lousy during these weeks...and the cold that I still have...
So I have avoided to start to quilt my Winter White Schnibble.. but being alone yesterday morning.. I just had to have a go...

So I happily started... And it worked just fine... and then suddenly nothing at all worked.. thread breakages... hop stitches...  and you name it...
HUH!!!!
It worked like magic the last time..  with the swirls... remember... :o)

BUT OH NO NOT THIS TIME..
Bad day for me and the Machine.. or what??
Well I dont know...
Too little sleep.. and pain.. I unplugged the machine..and almost kicked on it..;o))
And went to bed crying!!!!

But did I feel any better... no no at all..
I tried and I tried all kind of tips and tricks..
And I have to say a BIG THANKYOU to
She had the best advice...
She told me
"Set it aside.....done with that project....have machine looked at.

GO to fabric stash...start cutting for another project! Yes... I said that....put your mind
on something else!!!"

And so I did..
I went outside and stitched on my GJ (Gardeners Journal) blocks....
and watched Viktor hitting the tennis ball on his ball plank...:o)
Frustrated!!
(Maybe I should have played some tennis too..lol.. )

Thanks for the advice Mary!!!

Because later that day I remembered.. I had an old machine in my cupboard..
My old Bernina.. not sewn on for the last 7 years... :o)

And guess what...
It quilts like a charm!!! :o))
Who could know I had a treasure just in front of my eyes...
well a little hidden.. but there..:o)
Never ever have I tried to quilt freehand on this machine...
Ok.. it have its issues.. needle up and a really really slow start... and bang it starts.. so you have to be ready when the needle goes down..:o))

But best of all..
I am quilting again.. and the Pfaff.. have to go and see a doctor..
or maybe it was just bad thread or whatever it could be...
Will plug her in later today..and test...
after I have finished the quilting
on my Winter White Schnibble... :o)
It goes slow.. because I only sit ten minutes and quilt..
and up and do something else..!!

Ohh.. that was a long post with no pictures...
So here you go... :o)
See you later!!!

Winter White Schnibble

...top done...
just a few months late..lol..
This one was supposed to be finished in September.. If I am not completely wrong...
but better late than never...

Decided to sew with a Rural Jardin charm pack that I got as a gift from my friend Pat
(thanks once again...:o)
and since I just had one charm I had to add with what I had in my stash...
old shirts and a curtain had to go in this one..:o))

But now to the quilting...
What to do ...
Thought this one were going to be nicest with some handquilting.. but since I cant do that... I thought of trying my stitches at my sewing machine.. and try the monofilament thread and the fake handquilting seam..:o)

Tried this once.. and I wasnt that fond of it...but one can change ... or maybe not...
well suggestions and thoughts ..
Please....Thankyou..:O)

The last walls...

in the yellow room...
from my exhibition in Skellefteå this summer....

This is a quilt made from one of the most fun challenges I have  had...
The Shirt project!!!
We had read about some ladies doing this In Australia some years ago..
could they so could we..:o))

We collected ten shirts each... and since we were five ( Marica, Cici, Kristina, Lotta and me)  it became 50 shirts!!!
We divided these equal among us...
and decided on the rules...
All 50 shirts had to be used in the quilt we made...
Just one fabric could be added...

And this is what I made...
( Oh you should see the other girls too.. they are wonderful)

"Fem Flickor ( Five Girls)"

Pattern by Cheri Saffiote Payne
And the quilt in the basket.. is a quilt I started with the leftovers from the shirts.. both on the back and front...
still not finished.. but will some day..:o))
And believe me.. I still have LOTS of scraps from those shirts...

(And you from Norway and Sweden might remember this since we have been in the local quilt magazines showing all the quilts..)

One time while visiting Louise in Östersund we started to sew one doll each..
and this is my version...

"Sarah Louise"
Sooo much fun we had that weekend!! :o)

And this quilt is another oldie....

Also a project shared with friends...
Louise in Östersund and Eugenie in Norway
We decided to sew stars to each other..
I sewed mine ( in my colors) and sent to Louise who sewed for me and sent to Eugenie...
who sewed for me and finally one day A large envelope was in my mailbox...
and then it was up to me to sew them together...

And of course I sewed stars for both Louise and Eugenie...
and they do have their quilts finished too..
Louise an America inspired quilt.. and Eugenies in pastels... :o)
This is how mine became

"My Stars"

And this is a quilt I gave my Brother and his wife Anna on their wedding day
Thanks for letting me borrow it ...:o)))

"The wedding quilt"

And during the show I exchanged the quilts a little so I hung my
Everyday Angels in the same corners as my brothers quilt...

"Everyday Angels"

pattern by the Chookshed ( I think..:o)

And this is a quilt I made for my Mother...
she do always think we are too far away... so I decided to change that..
So I collected the handprints from my brothers families and from mine...

and made this quilt with just Kaffe Fasset fabrics...

"Mothers quilt"

So now she can have us all around her..:o))

The quilt below is the the oldest quilt I had in the show... a quilt that I made for my dads 60th birthday....ohh.. look at those fabrics.. :o))  talking about memory lanes... sweet memories.. and so is this quilt for dad too...

Some Pictures from his life transferred on fabric..
My christening... Dad just as a little boy...  Newborn sibling...
Mom and dad taking a rest in the haymaking... Early days working in the woods...
Castle Rushen at the Isle of Man... where Our relatives lived during the viking ages...
The beard he had when he came home from France.. and still have..lol..
early days  working with floating timber....

"My Fathers Quilt"

It doesnt show so much but I quilted a message for him on the quilt with runics all around the quilt... and well he says he have read it..:o))) Im not sure.... :o)

And finally  a quilt Viktor and I worked on together when he was about 5-6 years old...

He picked the fabrics... and wow he was so sure where to put them...
maybe he will be a quilter ..:o)))

Oh so much fun we had building all the trucks and cars...
Pattern from an Australian designer... think it was called Adams Garage...

"Viktors Garage"

And I totally forgot to take photos of the quilts that was in the basket..
but maybe someday... I will show them...
hmm.. because the one in blues and greens... are needing some help to be fixed!!
It is so worn!!! :o)

Well I hope you have enjoyed all the quilts....
Have some pictures left from what I had for sale at the show...  and then it will be all back to normal again here in Kviltstina Land..:o)))

See you!!
have to get back working on my Schnibble!!!

Rural Jardin fabrics this time... :o)

August 5, 2010

Back to the show... :o)

and the Yellow Room....

In this room I decided to have a quilts with a little bit more colour...
well....have in mind Stina colours...:o))
Some you might have seen...some may not...
And I´ll show them anyway!!!

ok.. first corner... I hung three little quilts made from a pattern made by
Cheri Saffiote Payne

"Bless your Heart 1"

"Faith, Hope and Love"

These three quilts is some of my very favorite quilts...
they just are..:o)
Always makes me smile when I hang them...

"Bless Your Heart 2"

Next to these...
I hung another quilt made from a pattern by Leanne Beasley

"A Quilters Journey"

 Another favorite...
And everything written is so true!!
Thanks Leanne for designing  such wonderful quilts for us!!

In a basket on the floor I had my  quilt made in browns, creme and pink...
Pattern from a Swedish Designer Tyger & Ting

"Old Love"

Of course I had to have my little Punch Needle pictures at the show that I made for my Mom and Dad... for their 70th birthdays....

"Needle Punch Pictures"

Pictures drawn by my son Viktor and punch needled by me..
another fun mother and son project...  :o)

And my first quilt made out of a Leanne Beasley pattern...

"Leanne´s House"

This quilt gave me such joy to make and it was with a lot of hesitation I had it out for sale... but I am so happy to have it sold to a wonderful woman in Scotland...
Hope she will find it as pretty in her home or at her granddaughters...
Just need to fix the label for her..;O))
(Note to me.. DO IT!! )

It is just.. that I need to make myself a new one!!!  :o))
Right..:o)))

Well that will have to be all from me tonight.
am a little bit tired.. no not a bit... VERY...
not fully recovered from my flu and last night I thought
we were going to have to build an ark... dont know how much rain that came in the storm last night.. but it was a LOT!!!
And the thunder... gosh.. I couldnt sleep a wink!!

So see you..
